We are sharing the following article from Lauren Goldsworthy explaining her CILEx route to becoming a Lawyer. Congratulations Lauren and we wish you every success in the future:

“What CILEx and The Law Academy have done for me…

My CILEx journey started in a careers lesson during my GCSE year at school. We were tasked with conducting research into the industry we were most interested in embarking a career in and reviewing all of the entry routes available to a student. It was during this lesson that I first discovered The Chartered Institute of Legal Executives. I have always been one to doubt my own ability and I did not believe that the University option was one for me, this made me even more intrigued in the alternative route. I was so surprised as to how unknown it was but this did not put me off and I decided that this was the route for me.

I initially attended a local college where I did not feel the right support was given, this coupled with the fact that I honestly was not giving my studies 100% meant that I only passed 2 exams in 2 years. I felt as though I was never going to reach my end goal of becoming a qualified Chartered Legal Executive. Therefore, I decided that a change was needed so I enrolled with The Law Academy in 2015 and I have never looked back.

The Law Academy has friendly and approachable faces everywhere you look, whether it be in the main office with Helen, Kelly and Jo, or with the array of tutors who teach, both in a classroom setting and via distant learning. Everyone there has one aim and that is to help each and every one of their students in whatever way they can to ensure that they have got the best chances of reaching their own personal goals.

With the help of the Law Academy, I passed each and every exam I sat and coursework submissions on the first occasion. I would be lying if I said it was easy, it was a difficult journey, and I am sure each of my tutors will tell you that I would stay behind after the class telling them how I had no chance of passing the exam or how I would moan to Helen and Kelly about having to attend night classes when it was cold and dark! There is no coming away from the fact that the exams are difficult, the revision is time consuming and the copius amount of case law makes your head want to burst at times but one thing is for sure, if you give your all and have the Law Academy behind you, you will reach your goal.

I am pleased to say that I did reach my goal. On the 14th October 2019 I was admitted as a Fellow of the Chartered Legal Executives and will be eternally grateful the help, support and guidance the Law Academy have given me, and continue to give.  I am seen among my peers (and by my employers) as an equal to other qualified Solicitors, I have the same roles and responsibilities and I am expected to act to the same standard and why should I not? After all, I am a qualified lawyer who has worked just as hard as the Solicitors I sit next to each day.

So, in a nutshell, thank you CILEx and thank you to the Law Academy for making me the lawyer I am today.

Lauren Goldsworthy”
