Helen Miller
- Managing Director
- CFILEx, Cert. Ed.
As the Managing Director of the Law Academy Ltd, Helen has previously taught various law and practice subjects in recent years but now concentrates on the day to day running and expansion of the Law Academy Ltd.
An aspect of her work she particularly enjoys is building good relationships with the students and their employers. She develops an excellent rapport with her students and confidently deals with employers’ enquiries whilst working closely with key figures at CILEX.
Her background was as a qualified Legal Executive with Hill Dickinson. She specialised in Civil Litigation, with the main element of her position involving advocacy before District Judges in chambers across the many County Courts in the North West.
Helen retrained as a law lecturer gaining her Certificate in Education through the University of Central Lancashire.
She has also completed both the Accredited Commercial Mediators Certificate and the Interpersonal Mediators Certificate.

Kelly Jones
- Finance Director
Kelly’s background was originally in IT and she gained an HND in computer studies in 2000.
She joined The Law Academy in 2005 as Finance Director having studied the AAT qualifications.
As well as her financial responsibilities Kelly assists the tutors in keeping their microsites up to date and user friendly.
Kelly really enjoys the inclusive and sociable environment of working at The Law Academy. She feels that this was really beneficial during the lockdown periods keeping in touch with students and tutors when many people felt isolated.
Kelly has experience and knowledge of SEN needs, particularly regarding Specific Learning Difficulties (SPLDs) and continues to enhance her knowledge in this area to ensure that all Law Academy students feel supported throughout their time with us.

Joanne Salotra
- Assistant To Director
Joanne assists the Company Directors by monitoring attendance for all students and coordinating registers for each lesson.
If you are unable to join a lesson for any reason, you must email Joanne for our records.
She collates this information and produces termly attendance records for employers who fund their employees through our courses. Employers have fed back to us that is a useful process for them.
If Joanne is not informed of absences, she will contact students for the relevant information.
Joanne is also our Sales Ledger clerk dealing with all aspects of invoicing and credit control.

Susan Doyle
- Director
Susan graduated in 1988 from Liverpool John Moores University with an LLB (Hons) and subsequently undertook a Post Graduate Certificate in Education at Bolton Institute for Higher Education in 1990.
Susan has gained over 22 years teaching experience at colleges and universities teaching a wide range of legal courses.
She was the founder of The Law Academy Ltd. She is now a non-executive Director after she retired on Friday 17th January 2014. She works for The Law Academy online as an e-learning Legal Research tutor from sunny Greece.

Charles Rymer
- Tutor
- LLB (Hons), PGCE, M.Ed
Charles attended Liverpool University and graduated in 1983 with an LLB Honours Law degree. From here he then proceeded to Chrysleton College of Law in Chester where he completed his Solicitors final examination, before joining Silverbeck & Co in 1984. On qualifying in 1986 he took up a position as an Assistant Solicitor with the firm and became a Partner in 1989.
Charles’s main area of specialisation involved all aspects of Litigation, Contract and Consumer Law. He has also handled in the early years of his professional life Conveyancing, Probate and Family Law matters.
Since 2001 Charles has taught on CILEx courses. In 2004 he returned to The University of Central Lancashire and obtained a PGCE teaching qualification and has now also completed a Masters Degree in Education.
Charles’s philosophy to studying at any academic level is very simple, in that he believes with the right focus, determination, preparation and commitment any success can be achieved by anyone.
Charles is a devout Evertonian, who follows the team both home and away and in Europe!
Charles teaches Level 6 Family Law, Level 6 Contract Law.

Dawn Roberts
- Tutor
Dawn graduated with a degree in English Literature in 1991. She then studied on the CPE and LPC courses from 1993 to 1995. Thereafter she undertook her Articles at Hill Dickinson and qualified as a Solicitor in the Civil Litigation department in 1997. Dawn remained at Hill Dickinson until 2003. She then continued her employment at BLM where she specialised in high value multi track Civil Litigation.
Dawn continues to teach level 6 Tort and Foundation Stage CPQ Tort and Legal Systems. She is also University Lecturer at LMJU.

Lorna Bailey

Lorna Bailey is a Chartered Legal Executive who specialises in Civil Litigation. She has spent the past 12 years working at Fletchers Solicitors, with a number of years heading up the RTA Fast Track department. She has always had a passion for helping her team develop and is now Head of Learning and Development at Fletchers. Lorna qualified as a Fellow whilst working full-time so understands how hard the balance can be. Most recently she has completed her Certificate in Education with UCLAN.
Lorna teaches Level 6 Civil Litigation and Foundation Stage CPQ Professional Skills at The Law Academy

Nicola Wormald
- Tutor
Nicola qualified as a Fellow of CILEx in 2000 and following a break from studying to raise her family, finalised her studies in completing the Legal Practice Course in 2013, which she successfully passed with distinction.
Apart from her completion of the Legal Practice Course, Nicola has obtained all of her higher education qualifications on a part time basis whilst working. Having studied with different educational providers, Nicola has the experience of a number of teaching/learning techniques which she looks forward to implementing to assist Law Academy students.
Prior to starting a family, Nicola enjoyed being a tutor for CILEx and marked scripts for those students who were undertaking their studies via distance learning. Having completed the majority of her studies in the same way, she was able to support them and provide them with guidance to assist their successful completion of modules.
Nicola has been employed by Liverpool City Council since 1992, her current role being a Professional Support Lawyer within Legal Services. Her duties involve the drafting of articles and newsletters for clients together with contributing to training sessions updating colleagues and clients in respect of changes to law, practice and precedents. Nicola also has conduct of complex litigation claims made against and issued by the City Council.
Nicola is a tutor on the Level 6 & Level 3 Client Care Professional Skills course. She is also an e-learning tutor for us on a number of subjects.

Hannah Bickley is part of our Family teaching team. She is a Chartered Legal Executive specialising in Family Law.

Linda Squires
- Tutor
Linda completed her part time law degree in Liverpool in 1990 and worked as an advocate for EAD Solicitors dealing with applications relating to family law and civil litigation before District Judges in Chambers. In 1999, having been admitted as a Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives then went on to work for Silverbeck Rymer for 11 years and subsequently Parabis Law. During this time the main areas were Personal Injury litigation.
Linda is keen to share her experience and is a Client Care tutor with our Level 3 and 6 students. Linda also tutors on a variety of subjects by e-learning for us both at level 3 and 6.

Allan Pilch
- Tutor
Allan was admitted as a Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives (now CILEx) in 1993, and was granted a full licence to practice as a Licensed Conveyancer on the 1st September 1994.
Allan started his legal career with the property department of Bird & Bird Solicitors Greys Inn Square London in 1972, then left to attend the College of Law Christleton in 1978. After leaving Christleton in 1979 Allan moved to Liverpool to join Bermans solicitors as a conveyancer.
After working for several firms of solicitors in Liverpool and on the Wirral, Allan established his own Licensed Conveyancing practice in September 1994 in Liverpool City Centre, dealing with residential and commercial conveyancing and acting for local development companies. Allan retired in 2014.
Allan is a Liverpool supporter and enjoys travelling abroad whenever possible.
Allan teaches Level 3 Land Law and Conveyancing plus Level 3 and 6 by e-learning.

Jan Canter

Jan graduated from Birmingham University with a degree in Modern History in 1986. He went on to do his CPE and Law Society Finals qualifying as a Solicitor in 1991.
Jan is a partner at KLS Law Solicitors in Warrington (formerly The Specter Partnership) where he has worked for more than 17 years. Although his practice deals with all aspects of Civil Litigation Jans specialist area is high value and Multi Track claimant Personal Injury Litigation.
Jan is also an Accredited Mediator and a member of The Law Society Personal Injury Panel.
He teaches Foundation Stage CPQ Tort.

Michele Henderson

Mel Megitt
- Tutor
Mel completed his CPE from Manchester Metropolitan University in 2000 and went onto complete his Masters Degree in Law and his Teaching Diploma from Huddersfield University.
He then taught A-level law, BTEC & HND law and CILEx courses for several years at an FE College in Merseyside. Mel was also an examiner for AQA A-level law.
Mel is married, has three daughters and is a keen Manchester City supporter which he believes is the reason why he has no hair!
Mel is also an e-learning Tutor for The Law Academy for Level 3 Criminal Law and Litigation and Level 6 Criminal Law.
